At a Glance
Dallas ISD designed a new career institute west of downtown, and we were selected to erect this 200,000 square foot structure. We self-performed over 95% of the crane work on this project, allowing us to keep costs down and remain competitive in our bid. Our welders and ironworkers worked long hours to keep this project moving forward, which resulted in the general contractor feeling confident in our ability to hit deadlines and keep other trades working behind us. We finished this erection with zero repairs, inspection issues, or delays to the project!

Case Study

How We Delivered

Limited laydown space shaped every delivery, pick, and shake-out on this job. Here's how we kept erection moving.

The Challenge

This massive structure did not come with ample laydown room. Although the fabricator was helpful in sending deliveries by building area, one of our greatest challenges remained the limited space.

Our Approach

Offloading trucks often had to be done with a crane, and temporarily shutting down parts of the surrounding streets sometimes became necessary to bring trucks in and out. Once the steel was offloaded, there sometimes wasn't room between the building and the road to move steel to the crane, so rigging and material handling took added time and planning to keep things moving. Due to the complexity and limited space, we dedicated a crew just to material shake-out. By doing so, we were able to keep the front-end erection crew moving and continue to hit benchmark completion dates.

The Outcome

In the end, by working closely with the general contractor and the other trades on the job, we were able to continually adapt to changing variables and perform our work without interrupting other contractors or the overall schedule.
